Another new page for the website. This time it’s the Reading List:
This was the first page I’ve built without the aid of the template. It’s a bit clunky looking for now but it’s a start.
The Reading List page was one of the main reasons for creating my own website. The idea is to build up a useful list of books, articles, etc that I’ve read myself and found useful.
My hope then is that anyone else browsing the site can get a better understanding of my interests and expertise. In my opinion, something like this is far more useful in deciding whether you want to work with someone than a list of bullet points on a CV.
The list is also something I can use myself to dive into when I need a bit of help in a certain area. My plan is to continue to build out the list, add in reviews of the books, and also create similar lists for different tools and techniques I’ve used.
A few notes on how the page was built:
The main heading and paragraph text are taken from the Blog Home elements provided with the template. I’ve reduced the padding at the top and bottom of the section, but there’s still a bit too much space at the bottom.
Below that are text blocks with coloured backgrounds as the headings, and a list of links below.
The colour swatch provided with the webflow template only provided greys and blacks. This looked a bit heavy with the current look of the page, so I went to Coloors.co to find some additional colours. I took the hex of one of the colours provided with the webflow template, #555454, and ran a search for palettes containing that colour. This one had a few blues I like in it so I picked one to change up the text block backgrounds and link stylings.
I also signed up to the Amazon Affiliate program so that any click-throughs from the links have the potential to raise revenue. Not that I’m expecting to actually generate any income from this. Just that it’s something valuable to learn how to do.
